Michael Green Memorial Lecture 2026: I Saw Heaven Opened

Apocalyptic Apologetics and the Contemporary Witness of the Church

The 2026 memorial lecture in honour of the late Revd Canon Dr Michael Green will be held at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, at 5:30pm on Wednesday 13 May, given by the Rt Revd Graham Tomlin.

The discipline of apologetics has often been controversial. The early Christians engaged with it, yet more recent theologians such as Karl Barth were notoriously dubious about its usefulness. This lecture explores one particular approach to the discipline, seeing apologetics as more a descriptive than a rationalist task - describing a world revealed by the new light of Christ.

About Michael Green

Michael Green headshot

Michael Green was perhaps the best known evangelist within the Church of England, who had a distinguished ministry as a priest and theologian, having been Rector of St Aldates Oxford and Professor of Evangelism at Regent College Vancouver.  Archbishop George Carey requested that he return to the UK from Canada to help lead the Decade of Evangelism in 1990.  Halfway through that decade he became a lecturer at Wycliffe Hall Oxford, a position he held (latterly in an honorary capacity) for the next 25 years until he died on 6th February 2019. It is an honour to host this public lecture in memory of Michael's life and ministry.
