BA (Oxon), MTh, PhD (Edinburgh)
Dr Muir has most recently served as Departmental Lecturer in the Faculty of Theology and Religion here in Oxford, where he remains an associate member alongside his roles at Wycliffe Hall and Mansfield College.
Following undergraduate studies at Oxford in Classics and French (BA), he gradually made the transition to the world of Biblical Studies. Following a two-year ministry apprenticeship, he completed a MTh in Biblical Studies at the University of Edinburgh, where he went on to obtain a PhD in New Testament and Christian Origins.
Dr Muir is particularly passionate about reading biblical texts in their original languages with students and helping them to generate new insights. Alongside his teaching, he is seeking to develop his research on ancient consolation and, more broadly, 'good emotions' in other parts of the New Testament and early Christian texts.
Outside of academia, he is a keen runner and watcher of virtually all sports and quiz shows.
