Mission Week 2024

As well as a valuable student learning experience, it's been a wonderful opportunity to share with our host organisations the vitality and fresh perspectives that students bring.

Every ordinand participates in a week-long mission trip during the course of their theological training. These aim to put theological learning into service and outreach by 'doing' the work of the Gospel in a range of community settings.

Monique Reichberger (ordinand) reports:

"We had an action-packed week in the Diocese of Hereford, spending days ministering in schools and with seniors and in the evenings with local churches."

"In the midst of all that I was so blessed by three things in particular:

  • The couple who hosted me so graciously during the week and shared their rich stories of 50+ years of service in the CofE.
  • The young people in the schools, many of whom were not from Christian backgrounds but had profound and compassionate questions on faith, the bible, and social issues of today.
  • Our Wycliffe team dynamics. The other ordinands on my team were people I'd not spent much time with before but they formed a fantastic blend of skill sets and most importantly - senses of humour! Witnessing each of their unique calls played out on the ground as we ministered together was really special."

"The mission was such a good opportunity to get back on the ground (after a term in the library!) and be reminded very clearly of why I'm at Wycliffe, what my call is, and where my giftings lie. A real treat and a great end to the academic rigours of Hilary term!"

During March 2024, four mission trips took place:

  • To four churches in Hereford: Students prayed and preached in a rural setting, did outreach in local schools and colleges and helped with a praise event in Hereford Cathedral.
  • To Betel UK (Birmingham). Betel UK is a Christian rehabilitation program helping people struggling with addition to restore broken lives. Students lived among clients, led Bible studies and shared their stories of faith.
  • To St Luke’s Church (Watford). Students supported the church's ministries & worship, shared their testimony and undertook community work and youth outreach.
  • To St John's Church (West London). Students participated in schools visits and social outreach projects providing food to people experiencing poverty and homelessness.

We are grateful to all our hosts and partners for enabling and supporting these opportunities. Wycliffe Hall has been sending out annual mission teams for 50 years and we look forward to future collaborations.
