Please pray for Wycliffe Missions

November 2024

2025 Mission programme

This ambitious programme will see Wycliffe students going out to 6 very varied destinations in March 2025. Student teams have been formed, and members are beginning preparation for the following missions:

(1) Bradmore Road Nursery, Oxford

Jacob Mayho and fellow Wycliffe parents have arranged to share the Easter Story with staff, children and parents at the nursery next door, involving music and games, a visit to a local church and an Easter Egg Hunt in the Wycliffe Grounds.

(2) Amersham Old Town

Bruce Gillingham will lead a team to support Wycliffe Alumni Jonny Rapson and Michelle Fotherby at St Mary’s Amersham and All Saints Coleshill, engaging with local schools, parish home groups, youth projects, men and women’s groups, as well as regular services.

(3) Hereford Diocese

Andrew Atherstone will enjoy a historic element to mission among both urban and rural churches:

2025 will mark 1700 years since the Creed was defined at the Council of Nicea, and 1500 years since Dubricius first brought the gospel to the borders of England and Wales.

(4) Betel in Birmingham

Suse McBay is organising a team to live alongside addicts in Birmingham. Betel is a Christian recovery community for alcoholics and drug addicts who come from around the UK, providing a programme of worship, work and prayer to help them recover, find God and build a new life.

(5) Churches in North London

Dennis Angel will return to his two sending churches of Turkish believers in Edmonton with students eager to learn how to engage with the Christian/Muslim interface and share their stories of their quest for faith in diverse communities in the UK.

(6) Three countries in West Africa

Ella Marshall, who combines theology at Wycliffe with service through the Relay Trust, will lead a small team to Guinea, Sierra Leone and The Gambia. Guided by the Archbishop of West Africa, they will share in national mission projects & lecture at Mount Zion Theological College.

A personal invitation to support our missions through your prayers

Wycliffe Chaplain Bruce Gillingham writes:

Please pray for the student teams preparing to be sent out on six different missions in March 2025.

Their stepping stones into mission include:

  • November: Visits of local leaders to meet student teams at Wycliffe for preparation and prayer
  • December: An Integrated Study Week on Mission and Evangelism led by Professor Ed Stetzer
  • January: Orientation Visits of Wycliffe Teams to their mission contexts to plan specific events
  • February: Training sessions led by Bruce Gillingham and friends to equip students for practical mission
  • March: Commissioning Service leading into mission events in Week 9 of the Hilary Term 2025.

Our guiding verse is:

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8)

We infer from this verse that our mission should be local, national and global.

Thank you for your faithful prayers. Do tell us how we can pray for you. God bless and strengthen your own initiatives in the mission of the gospel of Christ.

Grace and peace,
Bruce.
