Wycliffe Hall announces the appointment of Suse McBay as Tutorial Fellow in Ministry and Preaching

Oxford, United Kingdom - August 30, 2023 - Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University, is delighted to announce the appointment of Revd Dr Suse McBay, our Tutorial Fellow in Ministry and Preaching.

Dr Suse McBay joins Wycliffe after almost a decade in the USA, serving as curate and then associate rector at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, the largest Episcopal Church in North America. In her time there she oversaw all of the parish’s adult Christian education programming and pioneered and led Riverway, their contemporary worship service. Prior to ordination, Dr McBay was an RE teacher at a secondary school in Bradford.

"We are thrilled to be able to announce that Revd Dr Suse McBay will be arriving in January as our new Tutorial Fellow. We are hugely looking forward to welcoming Suse back at Wycliffe – ‘back’, as she was a student here, so she is about to undergo the ontological change from poacher to game-keeper!" - Revd Dr Michael Lloyd

Suse holds a PhD (University of Chester) in Second Temple Judaism, focusing on the Sibylline Oracles and the language of cosmic catastrophe and divine warrior myth in the Judaeo-Christian tradition. She has written for the Journal for the Study of Judaism on differing Jewish perspectives on the Greek and Roman empires. Her research interests currently include the various uses of Stoic cosmological language in the first century and the portrayal of Zacchaeus in Luke 19.

Over the years, Suse has gained experience teaching biblical studies in different contexts, including the University of Chester, the former St John's College in Nottingham, the Winchester School of Mission and most recently the Diocese of Texas' Iona School of Ministry.

"I am really looking forward to joining the faculty of Wycliffe Hall and being part of a college that brings together the best of biblical research and intellectual inquiry within a Christ-centred worshipping community. I know from personal experience just how transformational a high quality theological education can be and how foundational it is for mission and ministry today so I’m very excited to be part of this important work at a place like Wycliffe Hall!" - Revd Dr Suse McBay

Suse is married to Stephen, a native Texan, and they have two dogs, Han Solo (a mutt) and Leia (a black labrador). In her spare time, Suse likes to rock climb, garden and enjoy the occasional scotch. While there's much she's excited about in returning to England, she will miss her new found love of Tex-Mex and proper BBQ.
